Joyful Mist Cottage
Sometimes we can overthink plants, but this block is simply designed to bring joy.
The flowers have different textures and bold colours, and the reality is that some may not return next year. But in bloom, the planting is an exuberant mix of colour, texture and happiness. I like to reserve a block or two for this kind of fun.
Cottage garden classics grab attention on their own. Layered with other bright blooms at varying heights, they create a full cottage experience across the season.
Gardens are meant to bring joy, and that can mean different things to different people, but this one brings joy to me.

Conditions Part to full sun. Average soil. Zone 5-7.
The vibe: Joyful A colour bomb from end to end. Reds, pinks, yellows and blues weave through loose cottage forms, with a grass that picks up the movement mid-season. Nothing here is shy, and that is the point.
The placement: Mist A planting you see through. The open stems hold their space without hiding what is behind them, so the colour floats and the yard beyond stays part of the view.
Where it works A spot the eye passes through rather than around, like the open middle of a yard or beside a seating area.
